What is an EAP?
What is an EAP?
An EAP is a non-medical benefit that employers purchase for their employees. EAPs help employees address personal problems that may adversely impact job performance, health and well-being. In addition to solution-focused counselling, other support services are available. The confidential service is free to employees and household family members.
Listen to our President/CEO, Susan Lear, share about the benefits of an EAP.
What is the value of an EAP?
Employees have access to services 24 hours a day, 365 days per year by calling a single phone number.
Face-to face counseling sessions provide employees and their family members personalized attention to help them identify issues that may be affecting their emotional and or physical well-being. Balance EAP uses Master’s and Doctorate level counselors with experience in a host of mental health issues. Your employees and family members will receive an assessment regarding their concerns followed by brief counseling or a referral for ongoing or specialized services. Telephonic coaching is also an option.
Support to management is as important as the counseling component in improving employee engagement. Balance EAP can help your managers, supervisors, and Human Resource personnel identify and respond to an employee’s personal or work issues. Examples of situations that may suggest the need for intervention include a sudden change in work performance, declining productivity, sporadic attendance and/or change in disposition. We can recommend a course of action and assist you in referring the employee to EAP services.
Balance EAP provides a variety of employee orientation options to the EAP to explain the value of the free benefit and how the process works. We can tailor the orientation session to meet the needs of your company.
Balance EAP offers alcohol and drug assessments conducted by master’s level clinicians experienced in the treatment of substance abuse. For employees who are found in violation of the Department of Transposition (DOT) alcohol and drug regulations we offers Substance Abuse Professional (SAP) services. The Case Manager triangulates communication between employer, employee and provider in accordance with HIPAA regulations. If there are recommendations for a treatment program, the Balance EAP Case Manager will follow the employee throughout their treatment.
Balance EAP provides regular consultations with your company regarding the services being provided, feedback on employee satisfaction and workplace concerns.
We provide your employees with customized brochures, wallet and monthly promotional poster as a reminder of this important employee benefit.
Balance EAP provides annual utilization reports and can also provide a detailed utilization report in real time upon request. The report shows the number of clients seen, employee/ dependent participation, types of presenting problems, client disposition, afterhours contacts, supervisory consultations, management referrals and other useful data. The report respects confidentiality and does not contain information which identifies individual clients or diagnoses.
Balance EAP has a preferred provider network for face-to-face care across the United States. All clinicians are trained and experienced in EAP issues, licensed in the state in which they practice, and fully insured.
Whenever possible Balance EAP will coordinate the assignment of a counselor who is on the employee’s medical benefits insurance network. We can also coordinate mental health support with short term disability plans when there is a goal to shorten time off from work and reengage upon return.
Our online portal offers employees and their families articles, education and resources at their fingertips. Balance EAP can also offer access portal on the company’s password protected intranet.
Critical incidents that affect the workplace often occur without warning and can have a significant impact on all concerned. There is a need for an effective crisis response in order to assist staff when managing the impact of trauma. Balance’s critical incident services support members affected by a crisis or traumatic incident. Depending on the situation, we can provide on-site group debriefing sessions or individual critical incident support.
